It’s a ‘big truth’ that mistakes are our greatest teachers.

When I first started working in consulting, I focused on speed, thinking it was my competitive advantage and that every leader wanted things sooner rather than later. I once developed a Word-based proposal for a Senior Partner. He asked for the draft in 3 days, and I knew that I could do it in 1 day. I worked all night to get it to the Senior Partner faster than expected only to find out that it was laced with so many grammatical errors. I used the wrong tense, incorrect words, and improper use of terms. He called me into his office and gave me a lesson that I still use today.
